I've just finished a new botanical pattern that I'm really pleased with. About to upload to some Print On Demand shop sites so available on products very soon!
New pattern 'Epiphytes' based on air-plants growing on branches I saw at Kew Gardens. A few colourways here, I think I like the pale green and yellow best. I'd like to try and crack out a few loose and quicker patterns on a similar theme to help get some creative juices flowing!
My next pattern to go towards my Norway collection. During a walk on a holiday in Norway I saw many stands of young, slender Silver Birch trees and got inspired! So these are the resulting patterns, the blue colourway is available on Spoonflower.
Over the past 10 days I've undertaken my first 100 days project with the aim of re-defining my drawing style making it more versatile and appealing. Some days it is hard to find time, energy or headspace to sit down and get something done but if you force it upon yourself it is ultimately worth … Continue reading 100 Days Project: First 10 Days of Illustration
This week I have entered a new design into the Spoonflower design challenge. This weeks theme is Whimsical Watercolour Insects. These I hope to print onto fabric for creation of many home ware and soft furnishing pieces. Working with nature based designs and animal illustrations plus … Continue reading Foray into Surface Design – Patterns Galore!
Following on from my last post I've created some quick first experiments using Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks and I really am pleased with the results. Especially for a first try. I went for three fairly earthy colours as I wanted to keep the palette fairly natural. This is definitely worth pursuing for me. Now … Continue reading First Experiments – Ink Swirls and Animal Illustrations
I recently found a book on a Brooklyn street sale which I wrote about here: Fanciful Animal Illustration Find. Since then I've been looking at other books by the same publisher (Dover) who have a array of great sounding titles like: 'The Day Of The Dead: A Pictorial Archive Of Dia De Los Muertos' 'Art … Continue reading Antique Animal Illustrations – There’s Potential Here…
The last episode of the amazing Planet Earth 2 BBC nature documentary series has just finished airing. One of the animals featured was my very favourite and company namesake the Bowerbird! This cheeky bird was stealing good looking items from his neighbours Bower to try and impress the ladies. What goes around comes around though... … Continue reading The Amazing Bowerbirds on BBC Planet Earth 2
